Hello, NCW Democrats and Friends,
Although sad in one sense that the nation (and world) is having to go through these very murky times, yesterday’s announcements about Paul Manafort's convictions and Michael Cohen's plea deal reinforce our hopes and beliefs that our system of government will work. Let's keep our ears on the efforts in the “other Washington” AND focus our eyes like a laser on changing the balance of power in DC and gaining ground in Olympia and locally. Consider this—what is it worth to you? Can you pledge to work on the upcoming elections for 3 days per week for the next 10 weeks? We can help turn your time and energy into productive volunteer time.
We want to thank the large group of folks who came to the Dem "Coffee Break" at the headquarters office yesterday. In addition to general political discussion, we met Coordinated Campaign Regional Field Director, Guy Thompson, Coord Campaign Field Organizer, Luis Alfaro, and Schrier Campaign Field Organizer, Asa Smith. They described the program of work ahead and how we can best help our candidates cross the finish lines ahead of their opponents--and the magic ingredient is YOU! Yes, we need to knock on doors and make phone calls, but there are many other ways that each of us can help out. We'll be posting additional sign up opportunities for you to consider soon.
In the meantime, phone banking and canvassing will ramp-up next week, office staffing/data entry/other off-site volunteer work (the NCW District Fair in Waterville this weekend,, Chelan County Fair, a watch party for RBG on 9/3, etc). Please consider taking a shift or two and share in being a Proud Democrat In Public! SignUp HERE (http://signup.com/go/UnbqrFT) for the fair in Waterville--quite a few spaces available.
SignUP to help in the office, at the Nason Creek, voter registration, and in other ways: http://signup.com/go/jzXgjT. Watch this site for new volunteer opportunities and events! phone-banking and canvass schedules: Here's a rough schedule for the next week or two, as the campaigns ramp up.
NOTE DATE CHANGE: Our annual Chelan-Douglas Democratic Dinner will be on Friday Sept 21, 5:30 social/6:30 dinner and program, Wenatchee Convention Center. $55 ($30 student). Great dinner, speakers, and friends. Details for speakers are still being locked in, but you don’t want to miss this event. Tickets will be available next week. Email us to reserve yours—bring friends! Silent Auction: do you have a nice item, a service, or experience that you'd like to donate for auction at the dinner? Our ticket prices just cover the dinner expenses--keeping them as low as possible so that more people can affort to attend (also some people donate tickets to help others be able to come--ask us if you want to be a donor or recipient). Profit from all auction items will help support the work for our candidates--Flip the 8th, etc! Email us with suggestions.
SIGNS AND CANDIDATE LITERATURE: We’ll have candidate signs soon. The campaigns have ordered them and we’ve requested quantities. We’ll let you know when they arrive. Email us to reserve yours! Let us know if you have an especially great location in a well-traveled corridor.
ENDORSEMENTS: Our 3 Local Political Organizations have a process for recommending candidate endorsements. Each is slightly different, dependent upon bylaws and policy, but all basically involve the convening of a chair-appointed endorsement committee that will draft a slate of candidates to recommend to its membership. These committees have been meeting, communicating with candidates, and drafting their recommendations. The first recommendations will be presented at our joint general meeting on Wed, Sept 5. You are welcome to attend and vote. We will invite candidates to speak at our October meeting who are in contested races and who are not running as Democrats. We’ll let you know in advance if the location changes due to expected larger attendance. DONATIONS: Although the office is being staffed by local volunteers, we appreciate your support to help us pay the bills, to have the materials and equipment to support our candidates/canvassers/phone-bankers/staff. The office expenses are approx $1200 per month (rent, utilities). Any contribution you can make will be appreciated. Make donations via ActBlue, or by check (payable to "Democrats")--no limit; OR cash (limit $100 cash/person at any one time; multiple donations are fine!); OR your time; OR supplies (ream of copy paper, TP, box of granola bars or bottled water for volunteers, N-95 face masks for canvassers... we'll create a SignUP "Wish List" soon with current needs, so you can check it before coming in to volunteer or visit!)
