Calling all Democrats and Friends!
We're thinking of you - each of you - and hoping that you're sheltered from the heat and that you have "enough" to be healthy and safe. Please call or email us if you need help. Truly. There are friends in every neighborhood of NCW who would lend a hand.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY : - We are very busy with Democratic organizing (see list below).
- Attend the WA Redistricting Commission Outreach Meeting - 1 of 2 for CD8 (Schrier); Monday, 6/28, 7p Register https://www.redistricting.wa.gov/outreach-meetings
- Pre Register and attend NCWDem Summer Picnic to meet Congresswoman Dr. Kim Schrier and local candidates: Sunday, 7/11, 5:30p Details: https://signup.com/go/THHWsZS
- Volunteer to help local 2021 candidates who express the values of the Democratic Party! Deliver signs, write postcards, make calls, knock on doors, donate money. We can't change the menu if we're not one of the cooks! Contact us and we'll let you know who to contact.
- VOTE ON AUGUST 3! This is critical. Democrats running in 12 races in Chelan/Douglascounties will ONLY move forward if they are one of the "top-2" vote getters. We must all vote!
- Take a weekly no-host Democratic "Coffee Break" 1st/3rd/5th Tuesdays 11a-noon on Zoom, 2nd & 4th Tues in-person at Pybus/Fire or South restaurants.
- Sign up to Be A Democrat In Public and help staff our county fair booths: Waterville 8/25-29, Cashmere 9/8-12 (see below)
Over recent months, we've written Dem e-New less frequently. We've all suffered from a general COVID experience and recovery, the pain of loss and illnesses in the lives of friends and family, and the dt effect that we all hoped would just GO AWAY after a hard-fought 5+years of impact. Some exhaustion is another thing. But the Biden/Harris administration brings us great hope and we have lots to accomplish and we know we need to do it together!
Even though we haven't shared everything, for those of us on the NCWDem HQ Team and the near-circle of volunteers, our little feeties haven't hit the ground - there's been so much to do and the team has risen to the task! - We've closed out and cleaned up work from the demanding 2020 election year,
- We've elected (or re-elected) new Party leadership, on-boarding and training the most committed and diverse NCW team of Dems ever,
- We've built work plans and developed budgets to accomplish those plans, and we know that you'll all help!
- We've conducted several months' of PCO and leadership trainings (with another series of 6 workshops taking place now),
- We've supported VA by writing 3000 postcards to Democratic voters prior to their primary election on June 8 (Virginia Dems won, by the way!),
- We've recruited local candidates and volunteers for the nonpartisan races now on the 2021 ballots (an unprecedented group of 55 in Chelan and Douglas counties).
- Our office is open MWF from 10-2. We're often there on other days/nights, too.
- Our regular staff numbers 9 on the HQ Team (applause for them, please!) - each brings so many skills and the heart of a DEMOCRAT!
- We offer the HQ space to other groups who are like-minded, sharing coffee and goodies and expertise, too.
- For more than a year, in order to stay connected throughout our counties, we've held weekly Tues "Coffee Breaks" on Zoom, transitioning in May to in-person no-host brunches at a local restaurant for the 2nd and 4th Tues. Folks are loving it - come join us! https://forms.gle/vfTMpqYH1ohw7Bji7
- We're assisting current candidates and their campaign staff in the use of tools and techniques, trying to help everyone launch their best possible campaigns. Let's face it, we're all pretty-much newbies at this, but we're getting better. The R's have had a tight corner on the market in years past, but no more.
- We've planned substantive monthly meetings (come to the 7/7 General Mtg on Zoom to learn about what's being done by local police depts to address mental health response), https://forms.gle/CpueQb6Nzkk71mLX9
- AND we're planning our ANNUAL SUMMER PICNIC. Sunday, 7/11, 5:30 at Kirby Billingsley Hydro Park, E Wen. Please register now and plan to attend. See the attached detail, but know that Dr. Kim Schrier will join us, there'll be candidates to meet and celebrate, you can buy a catered dinner from us (Taqueria Morelia will be on-site, plus we'll provide beverages and dessert), you'll enjoy the tunes of our very own peeps, The Saddle Rockers, and just generally let your hair down with other Dems! No potluck this year, due to COVID concerns. Masks required, if not fully vaccinated, but all Dems are welcome. https://signup.com/go/THHWsZS
- We've also built a powerhouse tech team, our TechForce, whose members are analyzing our local data to share with us in amazing ways.
- We have a communications team, with lots of work to do. There are websites, Facebook pages/groups, Twitter, and other spaces, as well as print media.
- Washington State Redistricting Commission: We're encouraging everyone to get involved with the effort to draw new congressional and legislative district boundaries. Populations have grown and shifted in WA and the districts must be adjusted. We'll vote in newly defined districts by this time next year - 2022. See the attached pdf for lots of detail. Join the YouTube livestream to gain a sense of how it works, then consider testifying or submit comments to the Commission.
In the weeks and months ahead, you will be contacted for your VOTE, your time, and even a donation. Together, we will ELECT DEMOCRATS.
