Early JULY 2017 e-Newsletter

posted Jul 15, 2017, 1:39 AM by Douglas County Democrats

Dear Democrats and Friends,

This is a BRIEF reminder that:

·        This weekend is the fundraiser for NCW Democrats.  We will host the Nason Creek Rest Stop at Lake Wenatchee (Fri 7/7—Sun 7/9).

o   We still need a few more volunteers to staff the booth (needed: 1 person Saturday 7/8 from 6—9p; 1 person Sunday 7/9 from 3—6p)

o   We still need cookies!  If you can bake or buy cookies and deliver them to 326 N Kansas, E Wenatchee, that would be helpful.  We historically need about 125 dozen for a weekend event.  We have about half of those promised, so will ONLY need an additional 40 dozen.  See yesterday's email for some tried and true big-batch recipes, for your use.

o   Call 884-7488, or SignUp HERE (http://signup.com/go/JpDzXwO), if you can work a shift at Nason Creek or plan to donate cookies!

o   The funds from these fundraisers help pay for meeting room rentals, picnic supplies, candidate support, fair booth entry fees and insurance, and so much more.  Please help where you can!

·        Please plan to attend the NCW Democrats Annual Summer Picnic, Sunday 7/16, at Kirby Billingsley Hydro-Park, E Wenatchee.

o   5p Social time with The Saddle Rockers entertaining us and BBQ/Potluck dinner; burgers/hotdogs, plates/etc, water and pop provided!  Pls bring your favorite dish to share.

o   6p Program (including remarks by local candidates running for office this year and a few who will run in 2018, plus summaries regarding current important issues).  Always a good time among friends, the picnic will be even better this year!!!

o   Pls RSVP HERE (http://signup.com/go/CfyVAtF), so that we’ll know how many burger patties and hotdogs to buy!

·        Mark your calendar to attend a “must have” Voter Registration Training on 7/25, from 7:30-8:30p at the 19th St Land Transportation Svcs Office, E Wenatchee.  If you want to make sure every vote is counted and want to help make that happen, this workshop is for you. SignUp HERE (http://signup.com/go/BPEwMAo).  Let’s fill the room—PCOs and precinct volunteers especially encouraged to attend!  Q&A following training.

·        WA-Democrats conducting SUMMER OF CANVASS throughout the state, throughout our area.  Help canvass our counties to learn what’s on our neighbors’ minds.  SignUp HERE (http://www.wa-democrats.org/summer-of-canvass) to receive more information and to help.  Local canvasses have been scheduled for 7/9 and 7/23, with many more to follow. We’ll need leaders (Hosts), walkers (Canvassers), data-input folks, and others.  Your help in any way will be appreciated!

·        NCW Democrats will host a summer ice cream social on Sunday, 8/13, 5p Walla Walla Park Shelter #1.  Program still being shaped, SignUp HERE (http://signup.com/go/UqtiPWS).

·        To SignUp to help with county fairs and all other current Democratic events, go HERE (http://signup.com/go/jzXgjT).

Other opportunities we hope you’ll consider:

·        Climate Conversations NCW has arranged with 350.org to hold a local “DIRECT ACTION, CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE TRAINING” event this Saturday, 7/8, from 9a—1p at the Linden Tree park in Wenatchee.  No charge.  RSVP to Kevin Kane and CCNCW HERE (https://www.facebook.com/events/112118266076483/?acontext=%7B%22action_history%22%3A%22null%22%7D).  Please spread the word.

·        NCW United will hold a social event on 8/14 at 6p and have invited all Indivisible group members and friends to attend.  The event will be at Warm Springs Inn.  More info will follow.  NCW United members and all Indivisible group members are cordially invited to attend the July 16 NCWDem Summer Picnic!

·        UNITE Wenatchee Valley members and friends will not hold a July meeting.  UNITE members are cordially invited to attend the July 16 NCWDem Summer Picnic!

·     CAFÉ (Community for the Advancement of Family Education) extends a Volunteer Opportunity!  CAFÉ will hold a Scholarship Recipient Celebration Dinner on Thursday, July 20, 2017 @ 5:30PM - 9:30PM at the Masons' Hall (811 N. Chelan Ave, Wenatchee).  Help with decorations, music/entertainment, set up/take down, and food service will be appreciated.  The dinner will honor and celebrate this year’s SEVEN scholarship winners—one selected from each of the local high schools – and their families.

Our goal must be to continue to speak with our elected leaders, to advocate for what we believe to be right, to continue to do the grassroots work of registering voters, canvassing neighborhoods, staying connected, and electing great candidates to represent us at all levels.  With your help, more than 80 new voters were registered in Chelan and Douglas counties last month, the Freedom Foundation was turned away from damaging collective bargaining in two local municipalities, the ACA is still law (keep calling), a better state budget has been passed, and so many other successes.  Let’s keep working together and showing up!

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Karen Keleman, Chair, Douglas County Democrats

Bill Miller, Chair, Democrats of Chelan County

Dan Maher, Chair, 12th LD Democrats
