Dear Democrats and Friends, 

We extend our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to all victims of bigotry, violence, and mistreatment, and especially to the community of Charlottesville.  Hate and acts of hate have no place in our hearts and lives, no place in our democracy.  The people who think this way and who do these things are wrong.  Democrats and people of good conscience everywhere must stand together and stand up. 

Please join us tonight at Walla Walla Park Shelter #1.  Yes, there’ll be some time for conversation that will help us re-center.  But let’s put our heads together and build a path forward that reflects our values.  This is a time to step up and work for what we know is right.  This time of for a wall of unity.

o   8/13, 5-7:30ish NCW Democrats’ Ice Cream Social, Walla Walla Park Shelter #1, Wenatchee, meet candidates and friends, discuss and participate in planning. All are welcome—just come—we’ll have a little something sweet for everyone! 

·        A note about Dave Reichert and his visit to Wenatchee on 8/17: you may have seen a Facebook event posted about Congressman Reichert visiting the Farmer’s Market next week.  The FB event has been removed and we are discouraging people from attending to protest concerns they may have.  We understand now that this visit is the culmination of many months of planning on behalf of local groups who work to feed hungry people in our valley.  They will talk with Rep Reichert about SNAP, the WIC program, farmers market nutrition programs, and other local ag issues.  Let’s support them in their effort to communicate with our representative.  Joan Qazi, who is part of the group, will give a presentation about the background and site visit with UNITE Wenatchee Valley on 8/21.  Please attend.

·        A note about Senator Maria Cantwell’s town hall meeting: thank you, to all who attended the event yesterday (~700).  Cantwell fielded questions for 1 ½ hrs, sharing details about efforts she and others are taking in Congress to work for us.  A first-in-decades visit by a sitting senator, in open forum, we found the event very informative and applaud Senator Cantwell for reaching out around the state. 

·        Consider helping out at one of the upcoming events where Democrats are out in public in NCW.  We need volunteers and appreciate your support!

o   9/6—10, shift times vary, DEMOCRATS’ BOOTH - Chelan County Fair, Cashmere.  Volunteer to staff the fair booth for a few hours, greet fair-goers, sign-up volunteers, register voters.  SignUp here (http://signup.com/go/UBWocce).

o   9/15—16, shift times vary, VOTER REGISTRATION at Fiestas Mexicanas, Lincoln Park, Wenatchee.  Watch for details.

o   9/16, 23, 30, 10/7, shift times vary, VOTER REGISTRATION at Pybus Mkt, Wenatchee.  In cooperation with CAFÉ, NCWDems volunteer to help staff a voter reg table and help people register, answer questions about voting and upcoming elections, participate in a great public service.  SignUp here (http://signup.com/go/BVCDAiw).

o   9/26, NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY, all communities around NCW.  Help organize or staff a voter registration event in your city or town.  SignUp here (http://signup.com/go/YUkbHRv).

o   End of September (date tbd) NATURALIZATION CEREMONY FOR 200 NEW CITIZENS!  Watch for details, many volunteers will be needed to help welcome new citizens and help them register to vote!

o   SUMMER OF CANVASS—many dates available, host-leaders ready for you:  Help get to know your neighbors and help us make our outreach more effective.  Sign up to be a Canvass Host, Canvasser, or if you’re a PCO you can work your own precinct: https://www.wa-democrats.org/summer-of-canvass.  Email us if you’re interested, but don’t know how you want to help!  (Some canvassing can be done by walking/knocking or by phone.)

o   11/8 CHELAN-DOUGLAS DEMOCRATS DINNER: Special guest, Attorney General Bob Ferguson, Wenatchee Convention Center.  Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from our top advocate for justice for the people of Washington (and the nation).  Ticket info and other details tba soon.  Please mark this date!
