We’re harboring many feelings and emotions, ranging from anger and exhaustion to fear and hope.  Although we find little joy in what our country has suffered over the past three years, we believe in our democracy.  We’ll keep working together to make it better.  Please join with us whenever you can.

Tuesday 10/1/2019: Take a Democratic “Coffee Break” 10a—noon, at Dem HQ, 768 S Mission, Wenatchee.  Come to catch up on local activities in an informal daytime setting.  

Wednesday 10/2/2019: Monthly General Meeting of Democrats of Chelan and Douglas Counties, 6:30p social/7:00p meeting and program, NEW LOCATION for this meeting: Teamsters Local 760, 1737 N Wenatchee Ave, Wenatchee.  Our guests: Rep Laurie Jinkins, Speaker-Designate WA State House of Representatives, will join us for a presentation and discussion AND Dr Jim McFerson, former Executive Director of the WSU Tree Fruit Research Center, will share insights about the many impacts of tariffs on agricultural trade.  Business meeting to follow, including reports from last weekend’s meeting of the WA State Democratic Central Committee in Yakima. 

Tuesday 10/15/2019, 5pm: 4^th Presidential Primary Debate Watch Parties hosted in 3 locations by NCW Democrats.  Milepost 111 (Cashmere), Bob’s Burgers & Brew (E Wen), private residence (Manson). 

Between now and 11/5:  Volunteer to help one or more of your favorite candidates running for non-partisan offices this year.  Spoiler alert: there are Democrats running!  They need an army of support to win their races.  Research shows that a friendly knock on the door by a sincere candidate or volunteer is THE most effective way to influence a voter.  Try it – you’ll find you like it! 

Tuesday 11/5/2019:  GENERAL ELECTION DAY – Please remember to VOTE and encourage every friend to do the same! 

Saturday 11/9/2019: Annual Chelan-Douglas Democratic Dinner—KICKSTART 2020!, 5:30 social/ 6:30 Dinner and Program, Wenatchee Convention Center (lower level), $60 adults / $30 students.  Tickets available NOW – come by Dem HQ to purchase OR mail your check to 768 S Mission, Wenatchee.  Make checks payable to Chelan-Douglas Dinner Account.  Congresswoman Kim Schrier and WA-Dem State Party Chair Tina Podlodowski are confirmed speakers/guests (others, pending).  Great food, a little fun, lots of Democrats, positive messages and invitations to jump into 2020 to build a better future.  All are welcome!  Volunteers needed to help plan and staff the dinner and help with the auction!  All proceeds will support our local efforts in 2020 to elect Democrats, up and down the ballot.

It’s the first step in comprehensively exposing Shea’s dangerous white nationalist ideology and actions, as well as who funds and supports his efforts here in Washington State. The sad reality is, Shea is just the tip of the iceberg of these efforts in our state…and, it’s not limited to eastern Washington.

 

For example, in Jefferson County, on the Olympia Peninsula and the in the 24th LD, Shea crony Joe D’Amico is planning a "Cedar Hills Recreational Facility", a proposed 40-acre gun range and recreational facility that is, according to several documents, going to be a paramilitary training center for anti-government groups similar to his his previous facility, Fort Discovery in Sequim.

 

There is FAR MORE going on here as well.

 

We know Shea is being investigated by the WA House for his activities - again, that is just one aspect of this blight on our state, and will keep going on and on and on unless we clearly explain it, expose it, stop the funding for it, and show how tangled the WA GOP is with these efforts again and again and again.

In Memoriam:

Honoring an American patriot and diplomat, Joseph Wilson, 69, who passed away a few days ago.  He exposed the WMD reason given for the Iraq War as a lie.  In retribution, his wife, covert CIA agent Valerie Plame, was “outed” by friends of the Bush White House.  He said in his memoir, “I come away from the fight I’ve had with my government full of hope for our future.  It takes time for Americans to fully understand when they have been duped by a government they instinctively want to trust. But it is axiomatic that you cannot fool all of the people all of the time, and our citizens inevitably react to the deceit.”  Thank you, Joe Wilson, for a lifetime of service to our nation.
