Dear NCW Democrats and friends,
Thank you to all who answered the call to file for office to become the PCO for your precinct. In the 89 precincts of Chelan County, 50 Democratic PCO candidates filed(vs 22 Republican). In the 47 precincts of Douglas County, 22 Democrats filed (vs 18 Republican candidates). Our two counties will have an elected PCO in about half of our precincts, which is many more than we’ve had in recent times. We will also appoint others who will do the work in “vacant” precincts! Please say yes, when your PCO calls to ask for just a little of your time and help. They will be building teams in their neighborhood precincts—your neighborhoods—whose primary goal will be to encourage every supportive registered voter to VOTE in each election. How that is accomplished may differ from one precinct to another, but many skills are needed. Many hands will make the work lighter. It’s through our collective efforts that we’ll support and elect candidates to represent our Democratic principles. Please say you’ll help!
We hope you’ll take the opportunity to come shake the hands of candidates as they hold events over the weeks ahead. Listen to them speak and gain a sense for who they are and what talents they bring to the table. Be kind. Most are just beginning this public journey. If you can afford it, make a donation to help them pay for the expenses they amass running for office. Every dollar is precious to them. Remember that they are doing this work to represent us. They need our support and we surely need their voices at local council tables, in Olympia, and in DC. This year, we’ll have great Democrats, progressive and sensible candidates to vote for in many races. They have all stated they will work for a clean environment, meaningful living wage jobs, affordable healthcare for all, a great public education, a dignified retirement, and respect and fair treatment for our friends, family, and neighbors. In a nutshell, this is the platform of the Democratic Party. (Contrast this with that of the other major party here. Just read the preamble and let the content seep in.)
Our local Democratic Party organizations strive to live up to these principles. We exist under federal and state statutes, rules, and regulations. We have certain authorities and responsibilities. We have structure and purpose. We work for you, most effectively when you are involved.
