A commitment of your time and talents! Our community needs you. Yes, we Democrats need to have a Precinct Committee Officer (PCO) in every precinct. The effort this year to elect Democrats at the local, state, and federal levels is dependent upon volunteers who will help identify and encourage like-minded voters to cast their ballots. This can’t be done without person to person contact. Democratic candidates may not have as much media money as will the Republicans, but with your help we will be able to out-organize them with an effective GOTV (Get Out The Vote) grass-roots campaign. The Goal: Recruit a great Democrat for each precinct to become PCO. Filing week occurs during mid-May of even-numbered years (this year: during the week of May 14–18). Filing can be done in person, by mail, or via a link on the county website. Because a PCO is a volunteer position, there is no filing fee. PCOs are elected in the August Primary Election and serve 2-year terms. Some folks have been PCOs for many years. We thank them for their service and hope they will continue to lead. Half of the precincts in Chelan and Douglas counties, however, are vacant and in need of representation. We need and welcome your involvement. Once elected, we’ll provide you with tools, training, and support. The PCO team that signs up for the 2018-2020 term will be working with existing PCOs and other volunteers and staff for this year’s very important mid-term elections. They will form the core team for the critical 2020 Presidential election year. Let that sink in! Democracy is at risk. Each PCO and volunteer will make a difference. Contact either Karen or Bill if you have questions. If you’re willing, but don’t know the number of your precinct, go to MyVote Login—WA.gov and check your personal voter file. Fill out and mail the PCO Declaration of Candidacy Form or go to the county elections site on May 14 to file online (we’ll provide in next email). Remember, every vote counts and could make the difference. Karen Keleman, (509) 630-3055 Bill Miller, (425) 444-9598 Chair, Douglas County Democrats Chair, Democrats of Chelan County |
